is the circulation. this will set up a pattern that will direct the storms closer to northern california. so we're talking about multiple storms. the first one set to move in, friday. the second one on saturday. another one as we head into sunday. accumulation is pretty impressive. could be approaching 7 inches in the north bay total -- coatal hills. around 2 to 3 around the bay itself and even approaching 5 inches around the santa cruz mountains. i clicked the button too fast here. but just to give you the perspective with the numbers. those are the forecast titles through the weekend. our rain will translate to some more mountains. in fact, significant snow. you can expect for delays and possibly clod closures -- road closures, as we head into friday, saturday and also into sunday. here is our forecast model showing you the chances of rain developing in the north bay between 3:00 and 0:00, slowly spreading to the south by 11:00 tonight. the south bay is still dry. a good portion of the bay area, that rainfall is still a factor. tomorrow morning we'll have wet roadways. the south bay is not pi

. national weather service issued a winter storm warning for lake tahoe area, northern california. not just tonight, but through sunday. 2-5 feet easy. snow levels down there as well. as low as 4,000 feet at times. tough traveling in the mountains. three of these things. the parent low. brings them in. as the systems roll in, they come in tonight, late, tomorrow morning, then saturday morning early and sunday all day. first two events are over night events into the morning hours. the model bears it out. at 5:00 p.m., this model updated and it slowed the progression of the system. 11:00 p.m. tonight, showers still north, right? the showers in the north bay. then it rains 4:00 a.m., the morning commute, still nothing in san jose. 6:00 a.m., scattered showers, heavy showers in santa rosa. wind advisory going on. 8:00 a.m., wet on the roads, cloudy in concord. 10:00 a.m., it breaks open. this model breaks it out. by lunchtime, scattered showers and more scattered showers into the afternoon. tonight at 10:00 p.m. i will be back and the model will update, i am sure it is because it updated there.

for that part of the region and some more snow expected, a good portion of northern california if you are taking interstate 5 up through shasta, be extra careful. there is a chance we could have some freeway closures. look at this winter storm warning out towards the sierra. snowfall 2 to 5 feet. that's a lot of snow and that could cause some problems on the roadway as we head into friday, saturday and sunday. here's our forecast model for today. we're starting out dry an increase in the high clouds. we do bring in a chance for rain showers up in the north bay. you will notice the south bay's still dry but then into early friday morning we're tracking rain clouds. we'll have wet pavement to start out our can friday morning commute. for today, increasing clouds, the chance of a shower up in the north bay, especially toward the latter portion of the afternoon. a pretty active forecast, some rain and wind, tapering off into the afternoon. a second storm producing heavier rain. saturday morning and possibly a third one into sunday as well. have to keep an eye on the rivers and the streams out there

crab fishermen in northern california will have to wait a little bit longer to set their traps again. for the third time the department of fish and game delayed the opening of dungenese crab season. they delayed the opening because tests show the crabs body weight is less than 25% meat. the season was set to start december 31st. fish and game says the opening date cannot be delayed beyond january 15th. >>> bay area air quality officials are asking residents not to burn wood in their fireplaces or wood stoving tonight and tomorrow. they have not declared spare the air days however there are concerns that as the weather clears the wood smoke could cause smoke pollution to build up throughout the bay area. >>> volunteers were busy this morning in san francisco collecting food for those in need. >> two more hams. >> yay. >> reporter: this woman braved the rain to help collect hams for the st. anthony foundation for the annual christmas dinner. st.anthony's is trying to collect 4,000 hams for the people expected on christmas day. the economic situation has made the need everyone greater t

quite active by the afternoon and storm tracker 2 shows northern california has light rain and we have a sprinkle overhead. around parts of san pablo bay, we have some rain on and off and i am shifting but a moment ago i sawzall there. shifting -- i saw sal and shifting on and off, we saw showers. in and around the bridge we saw sprinkles into san francisco picking up rain clouds and sunset district into market and the downtown area we will remain mostly cloudy, just a few stray showers and steady rain is coming later with all the cloud cover acting as a blanket so it will not be as cold. low 40s in santa rosa it will be warmer and we are singing back into the mid-30s. 6:00 i want to show you that steadty line is out of the oakland bridge and by 2:00 in oakland you can expect to have that rain and by 5:00 everybody is getting wet and down into the south bay scattered showers. here is your forecast, like yesterday it will feel colder out there and we will have foggy conditions and it will be windy at times when the front moves through in the afternoon. i will share with you how much ra

here in northern california. it was 1989 in stockton where five children were gunned down on a school playground. ktvu's robert handa is in stockton with reaction to today's violence. >> reporter: we're at the elementary school in stockton that gets reminded on its painful past whenever there's a mass shooting some where else. so today's shooting hit some raw nerves to those who were here when it happened. for many people in stockton the campus of cleveland school is a symbol of how a community can recover from a horrific senseless act. a former student came on campus with an assault rifle and fired more than 100 rounds in less than five minutes killing several before turning the gun on himself. the captain became a national figure at the time. and told me that today's shooting in connecticut brought similar feelings. >> it was the same thing, someone comeing in and shooting several children. i was so happy of the result that had happened to the suspect because i felt it was instant justice. >> language was a problem, it was chaos. the community did come together afterward. and i gues

bit closer, you can see plenty of rain over the northern sections of california. but we have to get in pretty close to see some rain in our neck of the road. a little bit of light rain possibly falling over guerneville and winds ooh, highway 12, east of highway 101. i move on over to areas near vacaville and fairfield, perhaps i-80 getting a few sprinkles at this time. around the air base parkway and vacaville area. so we will continue to see these scattered showers off and on, off and on and then a steady rain coming by tomorrow morning. right now, the winds are light. this storm, not as robust as we've seen. the winds will pick up a little bit tomorrow morning, winds 10 to 20 miles an hour, maybe gusting stronger than that. but boy, we saw some pretty strong gusts on sunday and wear be -- and wear a's not gog -- and we're not gonna see anything like that with this system. the winds are light as i showed you. here's your forecast -- we have mostly gray skies but we're mainly dry at this hour. you see the rain here to the north of us. scattered showers are a possibility in the north
